Why Distribution Can’t Fix a Voice Problem
Most content advice is about distribution. Post more. Be on more platforms. Repurpose everything. All of it assumes the content is already worth moving. Often it is not, and no amount of distribution fixes that.
Distribution moves content. It does not make content worth moving. If what you are saying sounds like everyone else, putting it on ten platforms just means ten places where you blend in.
This is the step most people skip. They feel stuck, assume the problem is reach, and reach for distribution tactics. But the real problem is upstream. The content does not have a clear enough point of view to be worth placing anywhere.
You can tell the difference by what happens when content underperforms. If a strong, distinct piece lands in the wrong place, that is a distribution problem, and a better platform fixes it. If the piece is generic, no platform fixes it, because there was nothing distinct to carry.
Voice comes first for a practical reason, not an inspirational one. A distinctive voice is the thing that makes distribution worth doing. Without it, every platform you add multiplies the same forgettable signal.
Build the voice until the content is worth placing. Then the question of where it should go actually matters.
